Authentic $30 coupon from a Confederate States of America $1000 War Bond (#6268). This coupon was to be redeemed January 1st, 1883, but we all known why that didn't happen!
How can you be sure it's authentic? There are two clues to look for: color of the ink and bleed-through. First, the inks used at that time were iron-based, so over the years they've changed color from black to dark brown as the iron has rusted. Next, the rusting process is acidic, and so will eat through the paper used.
As you can see in the photo, the bleed-through is very prominent. You can't see the ink colors in the photo, but it's pretty clear when held under a magnifying glass that the ink isn't a true black, but is slightly brown, with "fuzzy" edges as the rust has progressed through the paper.
It measures approximately 1.5" x 3". It will be shipped in an archival plastic holder to help ensure its very fine condition.
