Description

The listing, Blue Agave -- Super Sized Pup! has ended.

This auction is for the pictured Agave americana pup. It is 14 inches from the base of the bulb to the tip of the spine!

In addition, each time the bidding goes up 100 points I will add another cutting or division from a different succulent until the box is full. Check our my profile for past auctions, the only one not available at the moment is Aloe saponaria. I can fit a cutting of the Golden Torch Cereus in the box with this pup!

For full description, growing and ethnobotanical information, and more photos see my blog: http://harvestsgardeningsecrets.blogspot.com/2012/09/blue-agave.html (take out the space).

The thorns and hooks are formidable, and the sap from the leaves can be caustic and can cause rashes and irritation. These should not be planted in the ground unless you have plenty of room, and thick long sleeves, sturdy gloves, and eye protection should be worn when pruning or working around large plants.

The adult plant pictured is the grandma of the pup offered in this auction! (I have another pup about the same size. If you have more cash than credits--let me know and I can set up an auction on eBay if that would work better for you.)

Shipping is by priority flat rate--in the US only, and includes tracking. Shipping is $12. 75 if paid by regular PayPal as if you are making a purchase. If paid by PayPal personal or by US Postal Money Order it is $12.10-- for the medium box.

I generally pack orders for which I have addresses and shipping paid by the evening before, on Sundays and Tuesdays and ship on Mondays and Wednesdays. This prevents your plants from getting stuck in a cooking hot truck over the weekend.

All my plants are grown without chemicals of any kind. Smoke and tobacco free home.

If you miss this auction or don't win, and are still interested in a super sized pup, please let me know and I will relist as soon as I can.

Good luck! I hope you win! If you don't, not to worry, I have a few more that can go in this size box. And I never thought about it before--but it is a cute name for them!

Hey all you Listia Plant and Seed Swappers--I am a garden writer and I am planning on writing an article on Listia Plant Swaps in December. Since I have no budget---I am hoping some of you have friends with great digital cameras. If you would like to be interviewed and if you can get a publication quality photo of yourself with either some of the plants you have offered, of some that you have won (or both) that would be awesome. Your friendly photographer would at least get a photo credit--and possibly a little tiny check . . . Might turn out to be a great way to promote your auctions!

Yep--it was growing on the shady side of the mama, and really reaching for light. For scale, think of regular sized kitchen tiles--that is what is in the background. I have it on the sun porch now, where it gets a little sun every day and much brighter light, and it is beginning to look more like a young plant than a baby pup. Perhaps this spring I may have some little pups that will go in the small flat rate boxes, but right now all I have are these bigger ones.
