CARDINAL VINE is an annual from the same genus as morning glories and moonflowers. It's easy to start from seed. Although it will sprout and send up a vine quickly enough -- easily climbing 15 feet or more in a full sun location -- it will generally take 4 months + to start blooming. Here in Austin, that is sometime in mid-June. It will be later in cooler areas.

Some folks have success with starting the seeds indoors, beginning 4 - 8 weeks before the date of the last spring frost. However, if your growing season is not a short one, it will grow best if you sow the seed directly into the garden bed after the last frost has past.

In addition to the its feathery foliage of the spring, the summer blooms of the CARDINAL VINE can come in shades of red, pink, or white.

The seeds in this auction are for the RED-flowered cultivar, but CARDINAL VINE also has varients that bloom pink or white.
