Series 2003 $2 Star Note - I02559583*
Collecting coins and currency is fun & potentially very profitable. Of all the type of collectibles within the currency area, "Star Notes" are one of the easiest to collect and also one of the most fun.
A "Star Note" has an asterisk or star at the end of the serial number & is an error replacement bill. Bills w/errors are removed & replaced one-for-one with a star note. Modern print runs are done in 32-subject sheets (32 bills per sheet) w/a run of 100,000 sheets or 3.2 million bills.
> Full Run: A bill from a run of 3.2 million is called a "Full Run" Star Note
> hort Run: A bill from a run of less than 3.2 million is called a "Short Run" Star Note
Both are collectible w/Short Run bills being the most desirable. When collecting Star Notes, you can collect a District Set or a Full Block Set.
> District Set: There are twelve (12) districts in the Federal Reserve Banking System, A-L:
FRB A (Boston)
FRB B (New York)
FRB C (Philadelphia)
FRB D (Cleveland)
FRB E (Richmond)
FRB F (Atlanta)
FRB G (Chicago)
FRB H (St. Louis)
FRB I (Minneapolis)
FRB J (Kansas City)
FRB K (Dallas)
FRB L (San Francisco)
> A "District Set" is when you collect one bill from each of the available districts for a series (year). Not every district is printed for series. EX: the 2006 $1 notes have 7 districts w/Star Notes: B, D, F, G, J, K & L. See below for a good reference site.
> A "Full Block Set" is when you collect one of every Star Note run printed for a particular series. EX: The 2006 $1 Star Notes have 16 total runs printed, so you'd need 16 star notes to have a full block set of Star Notes.
