I am interested, but curious to know what you use to split the logs if you use a wedge. Is it easier than using an axe? We are new to this fireplace idea and my husband likes the physical aspect of preparing the wood.

The way we had used it was to take a hammer and start it in the log, once it is in just a bit, use a sledge hammer to drive it home. It works well, we just upgraded to a better model and don't use this one anymore.
