Alebrijes were imaginary creatures that are colorfully painted and carved from wood, but were originally made of paper mache. First created in the 1930s in
Mexico City, they can be found in the Oaxaca area of Mexico in bright colors and fun personalities. Here is a fine example of this type of Mexican folk art!

With bugging eyes, long stretched arms and black spots,
this frog was made in this area and is signed ‘Alvaro Hdz (Hernandez) M.’ It is carved of wood, most likely copal which is a light wood, and measures 4” long by 2 ½” wide and tall.

In mint condition, he/she has ruby red lips that stand out as if to say ‘kiss me, you fool.’ It is BRAND NEW and would make a lovely addition to someone's South-of-the-Border decor or collection.
