Description

The listing, 1961 Philadelphia Mint Set has ended.

Here's an item that should really spark a good bidding war! A 1961 Mint Set from the Philadelphia Mint!

You'll receive a Franklin Half-Dollar, a Washington Quarter, and a Roosevelt dime, all of which are SILVER! Not only that, they're in MINT condition, meaning (IMHO) they would grade between Mint State 60 to 65. You'll also receive a Jefferson Nickel a Lincoln Cent, and a Philly Mint seal.

Some people are confused about the difference between MINT sets and PROOF sets. In both cases, the coins are uncirculated. With PROOF sets, the coins have a very deep, mirror-like finish, though such coins can be found in MINT sets as well.

IMHO, the primary difference is WHEN the coins are selected to be packaged. As coins are struck, the die will begin to wear, and that mirror-like finish will slowly erode until the background has a duller, frosted finish. I suspect PROOF sets generally contain coins produced VERY EARLY in the minting process, though with a good die, coins in MINT sets (which I believe are drawn from later in the process) can also contain those mirror-finish coins.

Whenever you can, inspect the coins personally to determine if you're getting the high-grade coins!

So, what's this set worth? The grading company PCGS gives a value of $47, while GovMint.com sells a pair of Mint sets - one from Philadelphia and one from Denver - for $80. So, $40-$45 sounds about right for this set! MIGHTY generous of me to list this set for free, as is the goal of Listia!

Given the value, this will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box ($4.90), with Delivery Confirmation and insurance ($1.75 for $50), for a total of $6.65. Sorry, US shipping only.

I'm going to run this for 10 days so everyone has a chance to build up some credits and make a bid.

So the answer is yes!
I just don't want to send cash in the mail.

And I don't WANT cash sent via the mail! It's the WORST method to use! I'm surprised Listia allows it, but that's just one more on their list of mistakes that needs fixing.

Do you take Paypal for shipping. I did not see that anywhere in the post or questions?

I usually wait until after the listing ends to discuss payment with the winner. I prefer Paypal, by the way, as it speeds things along.

Shipping seems high for something that can be shipped securely in a bubble mailer. And why give away something that would obviously make money listed on other sites?

God forbid someone should actually offer something of value on this site!

You're right! We need more Coke Reward Points auctions!

It would help if the bid justified free shipping! Get it up to 3-4K, THEN ask for free shipping.
Jul 30th, 2010 at 8:01:35 AM PDT by
Original
I'll get 4-5K even with $6 S/H! Why? It's worth it!
Jul 28th, 2010 at 9:51:44 PM PDT by

the war will definatly begin if you say free shipping!!
theres no reason you should get less than 4 or 5 k with free shipping. you may want to concider this...ill be watching good luck

Everybody wants free shipping...doesn't matter if it's a $40 Mint Set...freefreefreefree

That get's tiresome after awhile. Feel free not to bid!
