Watering Water newly planted echinacea plants thoroughly, then water regularly throughout the season, but avoid waterlogging. In the first year, water well to keep the soil moist, but then only water when conditions are very dry. Mulching Apply a layer of compost around the plants at planting time to help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Sunlight Echinacea plants need at least four hours of sunlight per day, and they grow best in spots with morning shade and afternoon sun. Fertilizing Feed plants with a long lasting fertilizer such as fish, blood and bone in mid spring, June and August. You can also fertilize every couple of weeks with a water-soluble 10-10-10 product. Deadheading Remove faded blooms through a process known as deadheading to extend the flowering season. Deadhead just below the base of the flower for continued bloom. Spacing Echinacea plants are clumping plants, so one plant will tend to get larger, but it will not spread and overtake the garden via roots or rhizomes. Dividing Divide established echinacea plants every three years to maintain their vigor and promote healthy growth.
Overall very easy to grow does well in shady & sunny areas & require very little care. I never used fertilizer on mine and they come back every year and multiply. You could also use in tea or make tinctures to help immune system.
