I make these bags because I foster pets for our local humane society & feed more than 50 pounds of dog food each week. I was throwing many 50-lb bags into the trash. So, I came up with this idea. After I empty the bags, I cut them into two halves, wash them & hang them to dry.. When I have a free moment, I then cut out the pieces I will use for my tote bags. Every part of these bags is recycled from the dog food bags. They are water resistant & great for beach bags, shopping bags (save a tree or prevent more plastic in our landfills) or bags for your pets' toys. I am a teacher and use them as tote bags for school supplies because they are strong & durable. I also make these from cat food bags and horse food bags when I can get those. I don't foster horses & seldom get those bags.
These tote bags have been very popular in our area. People get them when they make a donation to our local Humane Society which is made up entirely of volunteer workers....some of the people who foster pets have as many as 20 pets in foster care. We foster parents provide all the food for our fosters & are not reimbursed for personal funds spent on those foster animals. The contributions from these tote bags are used to spay and neuter pets of needy families in and around our area.
