Johnson’s administration, his Secretary of the Treasury, Henry H. Fowler, resigned. Since no new currency could be printed without an acting Secretary, President Johnson quickly appointed Joseph W. Barr to this cabinet post. Since Johnson’s term was about to expire, Barr’s tenure would last only 28 days! It was the shortest tenure in the history of the United States Treasury!
