Description

The listing, Persimmon Tree and recipe has ended.

Persimmon makes a delightful show in any yard or garden. A fruit that is well worth growing. Some people love them right off the tree, however this fruit is best eaten after the first frost or when they are totally soft. Do not eat a green or half ripe persimmon, since it has a tendency to make the mouth feel like it is drawing up.
You will receive 5 seed. Also look below for a really great recipe to try out with your persimmons:

Persimmon Marmalade

Directions:

Blend enough persimmons to make 2 quarts. Cook for 15 minutes. Add 1 C. pure orange juice and 1 C crushed pineapple.
To each cup of mixture, add 3/4 C sugar. Boil, stirring often, until thick.
Pour into jars, seal, do not put in hot water bath.
These do not need the normal processing required by other fruits.

I would use a good mulch for the winter time. I usually layer mine pretty thick...well i thought it was thick until i saw someone elses mulching job. Some areas may need a wrap to protect the tree during the first year. After that i think it can do just fine on it's own. A very hardy tree, once it gets established. Does not readily spread on it's own, so it has to be planted.

The seeds are on the inside of the persimmon. If you have the Japanese kind that is seedless, you will have to wait until about the time of the year, pull about three off the tree, then cut it gently in half. Start cutting off slice by slice until you find those tiny little seeds, which won't be many, about three or four. Lift them gently with the tip of you knife, and let them dry out.

These are seed, and will have to be planted, so its going to take a couple of years to get your first fruit.
