AKA bonney peppers, or Caribbean red peppers. Looks like a tam o' shanter hat. Native to Caribbean & Central Amer. Heat rating of 80,000–400,000 SHU. Pepper of choice in Caribbean region's cuisine. Other peppers, such as cherry peppers (wiri wiri), bird peppers, habanero, & pimento peppers are readily available & used in various recipes. When anyone talks about hot peppers in the Caribbean, especially English-speaking areas, they're referring to scotch bonnets. AKA "Bahama mamas" or "Jamaican hots." Bonnet connection can be off w/ some species growing longer w/ less squashed appearance. They are very hot peppers but some have an almost sweet, vaguely fruity taste underlying the spice. Varies from region to region, however, because it depends on soil conditions..
