The U.S. Mint launched the American Silver Eagle series in 1986. From its inaugural release, until mid-2021, imagery for the series remained unchanged. In honor of the thirty-fifth anniversary of the series, the Mint introduced the Type-2 style Silver Eagle, which featured a completely new reverse design, along with enhancements to the time-honored personification of Liberty on the obverse.

This 2023 dated bullion coin represents the third year of issue of the American Silver Eagle series with the Type-2 eagle landing reverse.

The U.S. legal tender one-dollar denomination coin measures 40.60 mm in diameter.

As protection against forgeries, the design of the coin includes an innovative hard-to-duplicate edge featuring interrupted reeding.

Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed as a young woman on the obverse, elegantly wrapped in the flag of the United States, as she strolls towards the rising sun with a bouquet of oak and laurel cradled in her arm. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2023" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." In recognition of the powerful design initially created for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar by acclaimed early 20th-century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, the "AW" monogram appears beneath the motto.

Reverse: A beautifully detailed eagle is portrayed on the reverse grasping a branch of oak while preparing to land with its wings in an uplifted position. The national bird is accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR." The Type-2 eagle landing graphic was designed by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra.
