Description
The listing, Antique Snuff/Perfume/Smelling Salts Holder( I think) has ended.
This belonged to my grandmother and I have never used it but always been intrigued by it. It is really unusual. I have never seen another and I am sure there are more. I can find no makers marks or anything on this. Nor do I know how to open it other than to take the stopper out which has a flared point on the end of it. Any info on this I would love to hear lol..
Questions & Comments
yepper....that is what it is. Is it marked 925 anywhere?
You know I cannot find a mark anywhere but it is so old that I am wondering if it wore off the bottom. It is really cool isnt it. Very different. Smelling salts is what women used to call snuff isn't it.
Thank you I love it I really can't believe I listed it lol. But I have so much stuff and need to weed out some of it lol.. Fanned back hun have a great day
No, snuff would be inhaled tobacco! "Smelling salts release ammonia (NH3) gas, which irritates the mucous membranes of the nose and lungs, and thereby triggers an inhalation reflex[8] (that is, it causes the muscles that control breathing to work faster[8]). Additionally, the irritant properties activate the sympathetic system as a response leading to elevated heart rate, blood pressure and brain activity." I took that from Wikipedia!
This is correct! I know because I have one. It's not on a chain though. I will list it for auction so please come check it out! It is from the late 1890's - 1920's.
