It take batteries, its best to buy the good ones tho, we've had ours for 3 months now, at first I just got the cheap batteries from $ store, bad choice :-) then I replaced them with Duracell and havnt had to buy anymore yet, and my daughter has to have it on every night :-) the good thing is it has a timer that you can set to turn itself off so you dont have to worry about getting up and making sure its off after they fall sleep.
