Using a complex imaging scanner, Canadian scientists were able to build a 3D image of the painting and discovered that Mona Lisa originally had her hair tied back in a bun. This is quite unlike the current pose where the hair falls loosely on her shoulders, which used to be a sign of women of 'easy virtue' - not something that could be said of the socialite and devoted wife Lisa Gherardini, who was the model for the legendary painting.
