Description

The listing, Grandma Dana's Ruby Red Chard (Seeds) has ended.

A full tablespoon of seeds of this rare strain of Red Chard is offered. Cold hardy to at least 10F, will tolerate repeated soil freezing and thawing, and is heat and somewhat drought tolerant when going to seed. The germination rate is quick and high. It produces compact leaves, perfect for the small garden or containers. The flavor is settled in the medium range of what chard has to offer--neither too strong no too wimpy. For more information see my blog post: http://harvestsgardeningsecrets.blogspot.com/2012/09/grandma-danas-red-chard.html

As you can see from the photo, I have enough seeds to list these a few times, but when they are gone--that is it. I will not be maintaining this strain--so I hope a seed saver who will love this particular chard will take it on and keep it going.

Seedling photo is 5 weeks after planting with no fertilizer.

I will add bonus seeds to your order every time the bidding goes up 100 points. I will contact Winner with list of available varieties.

Shipping is by US mail, in a small padded envelope, $2.80 (in US) and includes tracking. Shipping must be paid by US Postal Money Order or by PayPal within 7 days of winning the auction.

International shipping will be for exact charges payable in US funds through PayPal. Please check with your post office or customs agent to make sure it is legal for you to receive seeds from the US before bidding. Any import or customs charges will be the responsibility of the winner.

I generally pack orders for which I have addresses and shipping paid by the evening before, on Sundays and Tuesdays and ship on Mondays and Wednesdays. This prevents your plants from being stuck in a hot truck over the weekend.

If you don't win this auction and would like me to relist, either here or on eBay be sure to let me know. If you would like GIN let me know before there are any bids.

All my plants are grown in without chemicals of any kind; smoke free household.

Happy Bidding!

Is that the actual heirloom name... or were these from your own grandmother? I just started growing swiss chard this year. My family was not thrilled, but I think they might be happier if I try a few different other varieties before throwing in the towel. I love it because it is so easy to grow & so good for you.

That is the Grandma Dana's is what it is called, because that is the name of the person that selected it. I don't think it is offered for sell anywhere, yet. It is a local variety--that totally deserves to be more widely grown. And, she was not my Gram, I think I might actually be older than her--I have heard various reports about that. LOL . . . Never actually met her myself--but I am growing her chard . . .
