Description

The listing, Butterfly Bush ✽ ROYAL RED ✽ 25 Seeds ✽ Organic has ended.

are seeds from one of the stars of my butterfly and hummingbird garden. The Royal Red Butterfly Bush is a beautiful, stately shrub, attracting several butterflies and hummingbirds each day! I have been blessed over the last 3 years to have the Nanhoe Blue seedling pop up and survive our harsh winters. I made sure to save seeds from my Royal Red and White Profusion as well! They prefer a winter mulch and die back to the ground every frost, but quickly grow to full size the next summer.

I have to admit, my gardens are not totally beautiful all at the same time. That is why I try to take close-up pics. I try to crop out as many weeds as I can. After a hard frost, you should pile leaves around your seedling for a winter blanket.

I did not put the seedling in the ground - I just got it less than a week ago. So I put it in the fridge. Do you think I could put it in the ground now (I'm pretty sure it's already dormant) or should I keep it in the fridge until spring? Thanx for your advise! Iv got some strawberry rhubarb seeds from my rhubarb this year. But other than that- I was in bed most of he summer & didn't get ANY gardening done. =•(
Iv been having health issues that make me extremely fatigued & foggy brained. If I miss another spring -I don't think I could take it!!! Just gotta get my health back! That's all their is to it! Lol! But I'll put some of those seeds up for auction soon. I also have organic seeds I bought last spring- do you think they will be ok for next season? If so I might auction some of them as well. Ttyl! =•)

Did they tell you to put it in the fridge? I worry that if a plant is not in it's natural environment, it would be stressed. I stopped planting here about 3 weeks ago, so not sure what to recommend for your seedling. I always feel that everything in the garden has a better chance than in my house. I get forgetful and foggy as well. I have no excuse for it either. A long as your seeds are kept in a dry, cool area, they should be viable for years. They may drop about 5% germination rate each year for many. Cucumber seeds and Morning Glory seeds are viable for nearly 10 years, I hear. Onions & chives don't last much more than 2 or 3 years. I dry stratify all my perennial seeds so that my customers don't have to, so they are all one season old. I still recommend that some a little more difficult like these should be put in the garden before winter. I never use all seeds of anything. I try 1/3 in pots, 1/3 in the garden, and keep 1/3 if my firt 2 attempts don't work.

I was concerned about the cold winters here but I see your not to far from here! I live about 40 mnts northwest of Duluth, (by Floodwood) Minnesota- how far are you from here? So hopefully if they can take your temps they can take it here also! As long as I mulch & put them in a sunny location, right?! =•)

You have much more snow than me. I am closer to Illinois. You get loads of snow, and that is a helpful protective blanket for plants when the temps are low. I sometimes will lose a butterfly bush if we have below 0 temps without that snow. We are hit or miss here. Sometimes we have 6 feet, sometimes none.
