Description

The listing, MERITORIOUS SERVICE BADGE has ended.

Up for bids is a Vintage Meritorius service badge. This badge is at least 30 years old. On the front is inscribed Bring me men to match my mountains which is a line from the poet Sam Walters.
Sam Walter Foss (June 19, 1858 - February 26, 1911) was an American librarian and poet whose works included The House by the Side of the Road and The Coming American. "Bring me men to match my mountains, Bring me men to match my plains, Men with empires in their purpose, And new eras in their brains."

-- Sam Walter Foss, from "The Coming American", July 4, 1894

These words were inscribed on a granite wall at the United States Air Force Academy to inspire cadets and officers, but they were removed in 2003.
He is buried in the North Burial Ground in Providence, Rhode Island. Now the mistery is what baranch of the service this was awarded to and when lol. If anyone out there can add to the mistery please feel free to add. Thank you for looking at my item.
