You can put an end to questions regarding authenticity by getting photo of phone when on. Take a picture of the face while powered on. Shouldn't be a problem if phone in working order?........

Yes, iPhones need a SIM card to operate. This one takes a mini SIM, which is located on the right edge of the phone.
