You might be spending a whole lot of time and energy, possible up to 7 years to get cherries that most likely will resemble the rootstock more than those cherries from the farmers market. I just wasn't sure if you were aware of that.

Isn't your cherry tree grafted? Unless they are wild black cherry, the trees produced will be noting like the fruit you pick from the original tree.

If you ever get a chance, it is the most interesting thing to get to graft your own cherry tree. I got to start my own apple tree that way at a class I took. I don't know where you might find a class like that. Mine was during a propagation class with Master Gardeners. It was so much fun!
