Description

The listing, Heirloom Herb ✽ LEMON BALM ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Organic has ended.

These are seeds from a sweet herb, Lemon Balm. They are a close relative in the mint family, Lamiaceae and can be used in the same fashion. Lemon Balm has a delicate lemon flavor and can be used in abundance for a variety of herbal teas or recipes. They grow well in full sun to shade, in most soils. The average height is 2', but they spread more like a ground cover indefinitely. If cultivating for culinary use, moist soil and part sun are best. I suggest a large planter if doing this. Under perfect growing conditions, the Lemon Balm can spread very easily and may be hard to contain otherwise. I believe the "strong shall survive" in my garden. You will appreciate my motto.

Hardiness:
USDA Zone 4a: to -34.4 °C (-30 °F)
to USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 °C (25 °F)

This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my
garden. They will be sent First Class mail. I am happy to say that my seeds tested 99-100% germination within 2 weeks at a temp of 65°F in the spring of 2012. Excellent for beginners!

Propagation Method: From seed, sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 3-5 seeds per pot. About 10 days before the last spring frost, begin hardening the plants to the outdoors. Transplant your plants to a sunny location.

Yup-- 'gotta love it!
Chickens? Go, you!!! We have Black Langshans here-- an ancient breed that eats a lot and grows huge LOL! Sweet, gentle giants. Watch out: chickens can worm their way into your heart. I never thought I'd love them, but they're just so cool!

Day old baby Australorps coming the week of Christmas. Merry Christmas to me. I can't garden in the middle of winter, but I'll still be happy & busy with a brooder full of fuzzy peepers. I am SO excited!
