never seen or heard of this squash, what kind of flavor does it have and can it be cooked like the other types of squash?

It is a winter squash, delicate in flavor. We have them at our local grocery store.

Were these grown near other cucumber or squach varieties? The reason I asked for the latin name was that no other squash or cukes can be grown with the same last name together or they will not be true to seed.

I take that back. Cukes and melons fine to grow near. Winter & zukes or summer squash with same name will mix. Found the latin name: Cucurbita pepo... anything with the same last name can't be grown together or they will not be true to seed.
