Description

The listing, Canna-Tropcanna seed POD has ended.

I offer ONE FULL POD of this magnificent, fluorescent (hummingbird magnet) Canna called Tropicanna. I'm new to cannas but have been reading on how to sow the seed and suggest the winner should chip the seed with either toenail clippers, metal nail file or some way to just nick the seed, then you will need to soak seed for day or two. Please look up www.cooltropicalplants.com for more info.
The leaves are a beautiful green with burgendy stripes. This plant alone, really sucked me in on tropicals! IT IS GORGEOUS and VERY BRIGHT!!!
I honestly do not know how many seeds are in a pod, but this plant site I mentioned above, will help a lot.
This will probably be my only auction on this seed as it will go to market to sell this fall/spring.
It is a tall plant. It stayed aprox. 4ft. all winter in the house, then when placed outside (still in same pot) it grew to aprox. 6 ft. In the same pot! It also sets out babies like crazy! In two months time I now have over 8 babies and the pot is only about a 16" wide pot.

I replied to your question but I see what i'm doing wrong, I didn't click on your reply. Sorry. So I'm not sure if you saw the reply or not.
I'm just learning about these cananas. I live in zone 5a and they do well in the house in winter with all day temps of 50 degrees with west facing window for light. If you have freezing temps where the ground gets frozen, it will need to go inside, otherwise, what I have read is they will handle some cold temps outside but not constant. Inside it gives a very nice warm touch with the variegated leaves and it didn't get all that tall. I still need to check and see if you can pull the root ball out and store it....not sure yet.

I live in zone 5a and it does well inside. It is a tropical. If you do a search on your area for the cannas, that would be more help for you. I'm just learning these myself.

These are great plants to add landscape, I had 3 of these but they multiply like crazy I actually feel so bad when I have to trim em & throw away cause I have no more space for them. They do great in winter, Region 1, they'll only freeze the leaves, don't clip em till winter's over, then they start sprouting again.

If I had known that the weather was going to give us such a great summer, I would have planted them in the ground then dig them up this fall. Now this fall I will be thinking of collecting more, different varieties. These are very beautiful.

I have alot of different color cannas..here in the southeast Alabama region...very hardy plants that bloom all season long and multiply.Good drainage is essential as the roots are prone to rot...deadheading should be done regularly so the cannas can produce new shoots and longer flowering life.....They LOVE plenty of water.

Thanks unspoken, I was surprised to see that they were blooming again, it's flowers like these that get me addicted! We have had such cold and rainy summers the last couple years and most of my flowers wouldn't bloom here but this year it's been actual summer again, now I'm seeing lots of color.
