Description

The listing, 40+ (!!!) LONG Headpins with Silver Balls -- GREAT for making earrings! has ended.

These are NEW and LONGER silver plate headpins with silver balls ... and the lucky winner gets 40+ . These are a heavier gauge than the small ones (maybe 26 gauge), and about 1.75 inches (the others I've been listing are about 1.25 inches -- see photo for comparison).

These are TERRIFIC for making earrings and other crafts -- you don't have to add your own "end bead" to hold on the next bead. I counted out 40 then added a few more ... a few in each batch are bent but you can still use them (I do). The last photo shows earrings I made with these and the shorter pins with the balls.

Free US shipping too!

I generally list a few items each night, so check out my FRESH and NEW listings each night at http://www.listia.com/profile/auctions/28303.

WARNING to bidders ... many bids placed in the last minute never register. At night, when lots of auctions are ending, Listia's servers get overwhelmed and slow down. If you want something PLEASE place your bid at LEAST two minutes before the auction end--before it's too late!

I have not made any earring yet, but I want to give it a try, I have been collecting beads ( some from you !!) and different things, And I will see how its goes, It would be a nice hoddy !!!! Do you use all sterling silver on your necklaces ? Or what can I use ?

No, most of my beads are silver plate. Solid silver beads are much more expensive, and you can't really tell the difference to look at them. The latest thing is this "Tibetan" silver sold by the Chinese dealers ... it is just a silver metal, no silver in it at all but it looks pretty good and will never tarnish!

Over time, silver plate beads can tarnish and sometimes can't be cleaned, where sterling can be dipped and cleaned usually.

Hi There!
Were your last balled headpins 28 gauge? So these are 1 gauge heavier? (26g)

These are heavier, I don't really know that gauge. I think they are heavier than 26 though--they are pretty much the same gauge as normal headpins, pretty sturdy. Unfortunately these Chinese sellers don't usually give that much detailed information on their listings (I buy these on ebay). I should try to figure it out so I can tell bidders for sure, I realize!

After all these years I guess I just "feel" the gauge. Best I can tell you is if you try to bend the pin from the ends and you have a good resistamce, then they are at least a 20 gauge, which, along with 22 g are the "normal" size. 24g are the lightest I have ever used, successfully. Hope this helps.

I think you're right, 22 gauge. The small headpins I have with the balls are probably 24 gauge, they are much lighter, but these are a more "normal" weight. Thanks for helping me figure that out!
