As far as I know it is turquoise. I don't know what howlite is. I do know that this set was made by a woman who owns a jewelry making business where I live. I acquired this necklace/earring set from the silent auction at the cocktail fundraiser event for our local battered womens shelter. I was told by the maker/designer of the set that it was turquoise. I hope that this helps.
