Description

The listing, White Blackberries VERY RARE has ended.

This year my friend and I came across our most famous find so far. At first we thought maybe they werent ripe but upon tasting a few we were treated with a new find.......Pure white blackberries. Well we have searched the internet for information on white blackberries. We discovered they were developed by plant breeder Luther Burbank, and are also known as the iceberg white blackberry or snowbank berry, Burbank tried out 65,000 unsuccessful crossbreeds at his facility in Santa Rosa, California, before enjoying success in 1894. The only place we have found any that might be for sale are with the Luther Burbank Botanical Gardens in California and are very expensive, plus they have to pass inspections before leaving the state. I think the vines are close to 100 dollars apiece.
I collected seed, (after eating a few, couldn't resist) and am offering on Listia the few extra seed that we didn't plant ourselves. We are not gardeners so we felt it would only be fair to let others try besides ourselves. They were so unique. The red markings on the berries in my pics is due to us carrying these berries mixed with our other berries that day. They are solid white
Botony dept said the seed would be true to seed?
These seed were harvested miles from civilization in the Appalachian Mountains.

I'm usually more generous with my seed , however being so rare and our supply so limited, this auction is for ten of the seed.

Good mornin' to you! a hundred dollars for the vines?! I live here in the Bay Area (Ca.---not too fur from Santa Rosa as my Georgia friend would say!) and I'll have to go up there sometime and see them---in the meantime have you ever thought of taking a cutting from the White Raspberries ? I would try it---we have raspberries growing all over the place here but nothin' so special as these---did you make a jam from them? all I can say is WOW

That's exactly what we said when we found them......Wow, ( then some adjectives I can't repeat) They are not raspberries, they are blackberries. I am going to do the cutting thing this next year when we hike back up there. We gotta camp there to beat the dang bears and coyotes to the bushes, lol. We are getting old and I have to stay in shape so I can outrun my hiking buddy marie.

If you made a jam from them they would sell like hotcakes here in the Bay Area( S.F. and Berkeley, Napa, etc.) because we have all these "foodies" here (people who will pay big bucks for organic RARE delicious food items). My feeling is that they are ORGANIC and that puts them into a really extra special category. YUM! I can just imagine what a jam from them would taste like!

I'm drinking it, needed more sugar though, lol. I read somewhere that Luther invented these berries cause his wife complained about the stains after working with regular berries. Go figure. What a husband.........I was also told an old timer found some up in new york many moons ago and didn't know what they were. Then an old timer here told me he used to pick them for his mother cause she enjoyed the white jelly it made, unfortunately, the stand he picked from has been built over. The ones we found were really back in the boonies. Even the university here in tennessee claims they've heard of them but never seen any. We could a been in the newspaper with our find, lol, but didn't want to be followed around. We'd probebly get arrested for skinny dipping in the first creek we crossed or something.......

Original
well I'll just have to make a new cuppa joe then...please don't let any(sneaky)body follow you out to that berry patch! the farther back in the boonies the better---better to not be the newspapers too--the less they know the better 'cause some(sneaky)body might just go out there and take them all! I know firsthand 'cause that happened to me! I was followed several years ago by a "claim-jumper" and when I "bumped into" him he then later on hired another guy just to follow me---I was buying vintage clothing at the time and went out of town a lot to do it---DAMN CLAIM-JUMPERS!

well, most don't bother to hike where I go, I like them treks where most wouldn't bother. I've been known to belly crawl through briar bushes following rabbit trails. Plus, my dogs let me know if anyone is crazy enough to follow me. The only thing I fear in the wilderness is the two legged critters. Vile critters they can be, haha. I never pick a patch of anything without leaving at least half, that goes for ginseng too. I like to know I will have a crop the next year to go back to. Our mountains get raped enough as it is.
