Yes, it works. However, it does need to be wound after the little plastic 'stopper' is removed from the winding mechanism.

Yes, it has a battery. After I removed a plastic stopper from the winding mechanism, it ran quite well. I replaced the stopper. I do not want to open the watch since it is new, never opened or used. I can't guarantee that the battery won't need replacement.
