My Great-Grandmother's original Whoopie Pie recipe. This recipe is not in a cook book and is not available online. I have made these using this recipe since I was kid and everyone loves them! Yeah, we lived right beside a creek that just went ballistic and flooded our whole basement! My parents lost a lot of stuff in the basement! I was about 5 years old when Agnes wiped out the mid-Atlantic states in 1972 and I will never forget it! :(

I don't believe they were called Black Moons- at least not in New England. I always thought Black Moons were a Southern treat similar to Moon Pies but I could be wrong.
