No and yes. no to the software, all you have to do is plug it into the ps3 and it'll work. You can take picture and video chat with other psn members, also you can use it as a mic for online games. Just go into settings, accessory settings, audio device settings, then just select the eye. Also yes, you need the ps move wands to play move games. Some move games require two wands and some just one with a normal ps3 controller
