Questions & Comments
They are pretty. Could you possibly get a shot of the other side? Are there any markings on them? Thank you.
i will get it in the am when i have better light, the other side is exactly as the front, no markings there is a bubble in the glass on one i would like to try to show, at least that is what i think it is, also the handles seem to be bakolite. where should i send the pic? i dont know if i can add another
HA, I sold 3 of these recently in my shop. They're coffee pots for individual servings, by Proctor Silex, and the bottom may or may not have a little candle that keeps the pot warm. Super cool....I would bid on them, but I sold mine to make room for more stuff. These are from the late 1950s, early 60s.
I sold 3 of them for around 35-40 dollars. Would need to go back and look to be sure....they're worth more if you have the whole set of 6...which I would have but I split them up with a family member when we cleaned out my mom's house. I only took 3...if I'd managed to keep all 6 I'd of kept them and found the room for them. lol
It's a polish that will clean metal, but when you use it to test for bakelite it will come back on the towel as yellow. Also you can run the handles under super hot water and you'll get a chemical smell that they say smells like formaldehyde...but really it just comes back smelling like a nasty chemical. Ebay has guides to tell you how to test for bakelite. You can even rub your thumb over the handles really quickly and with some effort and then you'll smell like a chemical, too. Once you smell it, you'll know it's bakelite because the scent is so strong. Oh, I love old fire king, too...and old pyrex bowls.........really ANYTHING old with a history...I have several pyrex bowls that are about 50 years old and love using them because of the history they have. sorry for the ramble, too much to explain in a few words, and I'm a talker anyway. LOL
well I love it! the old colors are what i think takes the cake but the saphire blue dishware were my favorite. How i wish i couldve found some in an old barn....you dont ramble to me. If we lived closer wed be friends
Yeah, I love people that understand and care about the old vintage pieces. They have history and while I guess it sounds dramatic, I think t kinda keeps a little piece of the past alive. We have to take care of things like this and cherish them for what they are. Not to mention the fact that are made SO much better than things are made today. We could be fantastic friends and go pickin together! lol
You girls sound like fun and adventurous people! Love this auction but unsure if I would want to risk the breakage on its way to Hawaii. They seem to love to play volleyball with treasures marked fragile or glass :( These would be perfect for my water keefers!)
