Description

The listing, Organic ✽ JOE PYE WEED ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Butterfly Magnet has ended.

These are seeds from my best butterfly magnet yet, Joe Pye Weed. This is a stately perennial, averaging 4' to 7' in height. They start sprouting from the ground slowly in late spring, but achieve full size quickly. Every butterfly that passes through my garden cannot resist the soft rose/lavender panicles of flowers on this butterfly magnet. It is not unusual to see five different breeds at one time happily sipping nectar. It grows in a variety of soils in full sun to part shade. When they decide to seed themselves, you will learn their desired spot in the garden bed. They can handle high winds, salty air, and are good for hillside soil erosion. They are reliable bloomers and reproduce slowly, giving you years of enjoyment. They are very hardy and very little care is needed. They are water worshipers, though, and I gage the needs of my garden bed according to this plant. I do not water them as much as they would like, but have never managed to kill one! I believe the "strong shall survive" in my garden. You will appreciate my motto!

Name: Eupatorium fistulosum

Zone: 3-9

Exposure: full to part sun

This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my garden. They will be sent First Class mail. I've never tried these in pots, as they come up fine in the garden. I recommend fall planting, shallow in the soil. Be sure to tag the area so you know what is coming up in spring.

I need a new laptop. LOL-My keys stick all the time. I never plant all my seeds at once anyway (kind of like putting all eggs in 1 basket.) I would try 1/3 seeds outside now, maybe 1/3 in pots, and save 1/3 to see which works best. They have been stratified already, so they don't need the whole "put them in the fridge & hope for the best" trick. Personally, I just sprinkle them out in fall each year and they come up in late spring next year. Now I am not sure if they are the new seeds that come up each year, or seeds from a previous year. I never experimented with these in pots because I still have plenty of mother plants that live each year. You live in a very hot place, you will need to really keep them watered well once your summer is in full swing.
