The listing, Is It A Cookie Jar? I am not sure--But it is cute has ended.

I do not know what this is for sure..Thinking maybe cookie jar. It has been in family storage for a while..my sister did not want so she gave it to me to list.. It has a few chips on the ear upper part and down on bottem..I was thinking a little green paint??Just a suggestion. I think it is kind of old and has a few chips but could be a great conversation piece.

It was part of set. It was considered 'anthropomorphic' art. Japan's version of western people or what we looked like to them. They're still common on the West coast of America due to Disney.

The particular biscuit jar you have is a pear made by Py Miyao probably in the 1950's in Yokkaichi City, Japan and exported to mainly American novelty companies. If you notice they look a bit 'cartoonish'.

Walt Disney Corporation often used Py Miyao for their little figurines found in gift shops in the 1950's - 60's. America imported much of the companies wares as part of 'reparation' or repayment to the Japanese people after leveling their country with a little bomb. F.W. Woolworth was the main buyer.

Py Miyao is still in business but, it's goes by the name of Miyawo Company which is also goes by the brand name of Mikassa.. Mikassa is still a common name brand in America. There are even brick and mortar stores across US. Enesco is also another brand name of Py Miyao.

Yokkaichi City rather Yokkaichi, Mie is a huge port city much like Long Beach, California. It's also a huge textile city which manufactures ceramics, tiles, clothing, Isle tea, seeds, glass, wool, cotton etc. etc.

Yokkaichi" means 'market on fourth day.' The city began as an outdoor market and residents would set up shop 4, 14, 24 in each month.

Unfortunately, there's also a particular illness named after the city. During the late 1960's - 70's.. the boom was on for textiles and emissions control was neglected as like much of the world. There's an asthma named Yokkaichi zensoku or Yokkaichi Asthma. It's asthma caused from smog, chemicals and not from moisture or biological elements.

If you ever purchased a Japanese automobile from Nippon / Japan.. then it most likely came from Yokkaichi, Mie / Yokkaichi City where your ceramic biscuit jar is made. Good auction.

there is no such thing as auto-bid on Listia. If there is something that I really want and I want to win it and can't be around the computer I will put my bid as high as I am willing to go, say 12,000 and if no one bids over that then I own it, but there is no auto-bid on Listia...You just have to bid higher than the high bidder. Like there is a doll that I am bidding on now that ends shortly and i want it so I made a bid and no one has gotten the high bid yet, mine is still there, I want that doll. You just have to over bid the high bidder...Good luck and Merry Christmas to all!

This is a cute auction!

I just wanted to clarify that "auto-bid" that some people are talking about. Thats not actually whats happening at all, and there is no way to bid automatically.
When someone bids high, say, 10,000 credits, but the current bid is only 5,000, the displayed current bid moves up to 5,050 or so. Listia does not display the actual high bid. The high bidders bid is ALWAYS kept secret. Other bidders can't see it, and neither can the person holding the auction. So then, if someone bids 6,000 (or anything less than the actual high bid) listia will automatically tell that person that they were out bid, because someone had previously bid higher.

There is no such thing as auto bid...if you want the item and you automatically get out bid then someone simply has already bid higher than you have. It's not an auto bid and it's perfectly fair. You just have to bid higher, keep bidding til you outbid the high bidder. Doesn't mean the person who has the highest bid now will win,, just means that right now nobody has outbid them. Might want to take a look at the directions. It helps when you understand how Listia works. I don't mean that to be snotty either, just sayin that you should read the directions so you understand the system. If you have a bunch of credits and put a really high bid on something then you would think it's fine if you win and people had been trying to outbid you. Does that make sense?

Whatever you do don't touch up the chips with paint whoever gets this. I watch all those Antique Roadshow programs and they say that will decrease the value of the cookie jar more than just leaving the chips like they are. Wish I hadn't used all my credits. I luv this!

Looks like me in the kitchen lol so cute auto bid is when some one puts a high bid cuz they really want it. others can still bid but they have to outbid the other persons top bid.I do it all the time I put how much I'm willing to go.And then wait to see if I'm outbid-ed if I am ok f I want to go higher I can I think it's fare. All depends on how much a person is willing to go for it.And it's great for the person with the auction

Thank You lindselizabethh for clearing that up! I knew there was no auto bid on here! I dont know why so many people are griping about how its not fair though... All you do it bid up to what you are willing to spend on the item. If someone else bids and your max bid is higher, than of course it goes up until they hit your max bid, theirs wont count. SO IF YOU WANT IT.. BID HIGH... but that doesnt necessarily men that you WILL spend that many credits on it in the end.

I wonder where the auto bid came from. Someone must have posted some info about the jar and it had auto bid on it. I haveno clue
Dec 16th, 2012 at 1:12:35 PM PST by

I think that someone just made a bid, and then someone elses max bid came in over it, so they got mad and thought that someone had an auto bid on it, not realizing that someone else had just put in a higher bid. Lots of attention here! Great for you! Awesome auction :)
