Looking at the photos, I noticed red markings on the base of the candle holders on the upper part of the elephant, is the part of the coloring wooden candle holders?

They are stained a really dark redish color but look more black with lighter redish streaks. The dressing on the elephants is painted gold. They have never been used :)
