I LOVE this little ring! I have one for myself and a few friends for xmas. The photos aren't great, this ring is really lovely in person. It really sparkles like crazy in the light. It's white gold filled, NOT plated. Very high quality!

I can see what you mean, the setting isn't circular, it's a bit like a fan shape.

I don't think it's a real garnet. The ebay listing described it as one, but I think it's lab-created or crystal. However, it's really pretty and sparkly, regardless.
