this film serves as a prequel to the classic 1982 horror movie "The Thing." It starts with the Thing watching a group of scientists in Antarctica as they follow a signal across the frozen land. The researchers find a craft and make the decision to study it at their camp. When they go back to their camp, they discover the alien in the craft. When the scientists take samples of the alien, they unleash the alien. It comes alive when it thaws. The group suddenly discovers that the Thing is taking over the bodies of the other crew members. What follows in this horror movie are brilliant special effects and high tension action. The movie also fills in the plot points that were left out of the original. The DVD includes deleted scenes and commentary. "The Thing" stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. It rated R due to the graphic displays and gore in the film. It is directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen.
