Side zipper w/ hook & eye closure (my ribs spread after my 1st child was born so can't zip it past my bottom rib any longer). Smoke free/Dog free home. Dress measures 49 in from bottom of bodice to floor and 57 in from "collar" to floor. I am 5'3" and wore 2 in heels with it but still had to hold it up when I walked.

Sorry, yes it can be hemmed (as a matter of fact the other bridesmaid had hers hemmed the morning of the wedding)
