Description

The listing, 14 AMERICAN RAPID TELEGRAPH CO. TELEGRAM SINGLE STAMPS has ended.

In this lot there are fourteen different stamps. I don't know to much about these stamps. They were issued for telegrams, some for collecting and some have the word duplicate on them. These are American Rapid Telegraph Company stamps. Used during war time mostly. There is one stamp in the bunch that is a "letter Express" stamp from the Pomeroy Company. All the stamps are used or hinged as shown in the many photos. Most of the stamps, as shown, have a hole punch in the middle of the stamp, I have no idea why. If anyone knows anything about these stamps, please share on this listing. All these stamps are originals, they are not computerized reproduction reprints or replicas. The stamps shown in the photos are the exact stamps the winner will receive.

~~ALL ITEMS WE LIST COME FROM A NON-SMOKE/PET FREE HOME. Due to cost, I will no longer list GIN on my items. Sorry.

~~SHIPPING~~Totally FREE, First-class mail shipping to anywhere in the continental US. Delivery confirmation number will be available, upon request for tracking purposes & then item is shipped within 2 days of the
auctions end.~

~~CHRISTMAS DELIVERIES~~Due to the Holiday Season and the rush of packages going through the mail,
I can make no guarantees that items will make it on time for Christmas. I mail out daily, once it leaves
my hands, it is in the hands of the United States Postal Service.

~~FANS~~Please feel free to Fan me... I'll take the time to check out each individual's auctions before I "Fan" back! Listia does limit the number of users each person can become a fan of. Per Listia, "The 'fan' option was not meant to be used to fan everyone." Fanning everyone who fans you, defeats the whole purpose.

~~QUESTIONS / COMMENTS~~Are always welcome & appreciated! I will respond to all questions in a timely manner. Please be courteous toward myself & each other! Thanks & don't forget to have some FUN! Happy Bidding & Good Luck to All!

Update on the Pomeroy Letter Express stamp, it is a Scott 117L4 L233 Black on Thin Handmade Bond Paper, worth (according to Google) $5.00. But there is a warning that fake reproductions are many and being passed around as original. This one that I have, I am not sure if it is an original or fake. I do know it has been in my collection of stamps since 1954. The stamp is from 1844. I do not think it is a reproduction fake, it still has some residue of gum on the back of it. It hasn't been cancelled either. This is all I have learned about the stamp recently. But the winner will receive all the stamps shown in this listing, no matter if it is a small fortune to be made or a large one for one individual. Good luck.

I wasn't sure what or why they had them, I really didn't know much about them. I do know that my father used to work for Western Union back in 1954 to 1961, during part of the Korean War. They may have been collected from him, to my grandfather who left me the stamp collection when I was eight, in 1968. I am not sure if my father would remember about them now, but I will ask him next time I see him. Thanks.

Okay, I have learned a little more about these stamps. They are telegraph stamps approved by the United States Postal Service for use in businesses. Individuals who wished to send telegrams would pay for their stamps, the stamps would then receive a hole punch, stating that the telegram was paid for. These stamps were issued between 1881 to 1884. These happen to be 1881 issued. On Ebay, these stamps are selling from $2 to $5 each, depending on which ones they are. Someone is getting a bargain with all of them in one lot. Thought you might wish to know.

When or if you ask your Dad about the stamps, please let me know what he said.
