Description

The listing, Gold Chain Necklace BeAuTiFuL!!! has ended.

This is a gold chain, stamped 14K but I cannot prove that it's real. I could not afford the $35 the jeweler wanted to do an acid test. One jeweler felt of it and did not think it was real, but couldn't say for sure. I am not sure what this style is called. The pics don't really do it justice thanks to my camera not working properly. I ran a magnet all over it and the only part that stuck was the clasp and the pieces that join it to the necklace. I could tell those pieces weren't real because they showed slight discoloration before too long. Two of the links have tiny cuts on them like someone was checking it to see if it was real. They aren't very noticeable at all. You have to look for them. I bought it used so I don't
know where it came from. The chain never turned green or left any marks of any kind on me when I wore it. I'm not sure if it's for a man or a woman, but I wore it. The chain from one end to the other measures 24" long and is almost a quarter of an inch wide.

I'm trying to be completely honest about it. It really is pretty whether real or not. I just can't guarantee one way or the other if it actually is 14K. Sorry.

This really is a beautiful chain. I wish my
camera took better pictures. I certainly tried
to get better pics.

FREE SHIPPING!!! When I offer free shipping please allow up to one week before I ship because I have to ship when I have the funds to. This will be shipped with a delivery confirmation number.

If you take it to a pawn shop...they will test it to see if it's real! Becuase they want to make sure they know what they are getting into if you try selling it to them. Then when they tell you a little about it let us know. It's beautiful either way, but you might get more bids on it if it ends up being real.

I don't think they would like it if I had them go through all of that and not sell to them lol.

You said you bought it used and also your husband brought it home to you?

My husband bought it used and brought it home to me. It was his thought that counted lol. Sorry I worded it wrong. I didn't buy it, he did.

Pawn shops will test for free. Also, a magnet is not the answer as brass will not stick to a magnet. Been there done that on a piece I won from Listia. The only part that stuck on the magnet was the clasp. Good luck on this. Not all jewelers charge for a test. Most do not .

Not saying you should take it in there and tell them you're selling it to them. I've taken items in there and have told them I was wondering if the tiem was real and what it's worth to them. Just in case I decided to put it on here or trade, or sell. Just trying to help that's all.

Any chance of weighing it? I would also love to know if it is real, Also, I believe that is a figaro link! Thanks for a nice auction!

Well I don't have one of those tiny scales, mine is for packages, but it was showing 0.8 for the weight. Less than 1 oz.

Is there anyway you could take it to test it out at a jeweler?
Aug 21st, 2010 at 7:57:27 PM PDT by
Original
Well I would if I had the money to, but I am strapped for cash right now. It is stamped 14K plus it never turned after getting wet. If there are other ways to test I would be glad to. The only part that turned any was the clasp area I described.

sweetie try a different jeweler mine tests for free all the time... Hugs

I tried two. One said they only test it free if they are purchasing it from the person otherwise it would be $35. He acted like I had slapped him when I told him I couldn't afford to pay that much. Said well we can't do it for free. Needless to say I won't go to him for anything in the future lol. The other only deals with their own jewelry.

i want to make sure to thank you for saying your not sure.. i had a chain like this in yellow stamped and purchased it off ebay for a whole lot of money. only to find out it was heavily gold plated.. i just wanted to say thank you for your honesty.....it is very beautiful.. i hope it hits high bids for you

Well I wouldn't want someone to lie to me, so I'm not going to do it to anyone else. All I can do is state what I do and don't know about it. It is very pretty regardless. Thank you for your kind message. :o)

Is there any discoloration on the chain itself, like in between the links?
Aug 22nd, 2010 at 6:55:14 PM PDT by

Not that I can tell. I have soaked this thing in gold jewelry cleaner, held it in water for a minute and everything trying to see if the rest of it would turn color. It still looks the same to me except for the clasp area as mentioned. I know nothing but the clasp area stuck to a magnet, so I don't know. I wish I would have had the money to have it tested. I would like to know myself if it really is gold. It doesn't say GP, but I am no gold expert so I don't know what to call it. All I know is what it says on it. I think it's a nice necklace, but I prefer sterling silver so I've only worn this maybe a week or two worth of time since my husband brought it home to me.

I was also going to mention that our local jeweler doesn't charge to test things either so it's worth getting checked out, I think you will bring in alot more credits but of course that is up to you. Good luck with your auction, hope it goes well for you :)

I have had solid gold chains like this before and the clasps have always stuck to a magnet when tested and I believe they plate those on some but the chains never did and I know they were solid so if this helps.
Aug 22nd, 2010 at 12:07:43 AM PDT by
Original
I heard they did because the clasps need to be stronger. I still can't prove this is real gold though unfortunately. It is stamped 14K, but I don't know. The jeweler wanted $35 I don't have to test it.
