As long as you (it has) have a USB port on the notebook it can be attached. It is 'powered' via that USB connection, no additional power source required. Plug and Play.

For Everyone:

To further allay any misgivings look closely at the MANUAL in the pictures (use the VIEW LARGER button directly under them). It states "DVD WRITER" in big white letters. Another picture with the MANUAL states "Writing and Rewriting of CDs/DVDs".

I always try to include as much pertinent information as I can including even with the pictures I post; and, I always, always try to get in as many pictures as possible.

YES, and in addition it states in the manual quote: "notebooks and laptops (PCs too) usually have a DVD Player Software (CODEC) already loaded and preinstalled. IF your's does not, you will need to download or purchase software in order to WATCH DVDs"

Straight from the manual. It PLAYS DVD movies.

BTW: Also note that if plays DVD movies by default it will additionally play CD music as well.
