Description

The listing, Lake Superior Starburst Prehnite Primo Polished Gemstones (3) has ended.

Exquisite, hand picked. quality, Lake Superior sunburst Prehnite gemstones.
The Lake Superior region is the only place in the world where you will find Prehnite with radiating sprays of colors; such as blues, purples, and most commonly, pinks and greens.
The first stone pictured, you will see, shimmers of orange caught in the flash. That is inclusions, or flecks, of native copper. Prehnite and native copper are quite regularly found together in this type of stone. Hand picked, and polished to perfection.. These stones are truly one of a kind.

These are pretty. Can you please give the size of them (inches, mm)? These are nuggets, not cabochons, correct? Do you know the mohs scale hardness of these? Thanks!

All three stones measure about 2/3", end to end. I can weigh them out in ounces too, if you'd like. I would consider them free form cabachons as they are flatter more so than round, like nuggets, but you could consider them to be both. The MOHs scale of hardness, via Wikipedia, said between 6-6.5, but I'll check my mineralogy of Michigan book to be sure, and if hardness is different between regular Prehnite and sunburst Prehnite, I'll let you know.
Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks for your reply! It is hard to tell in the photos, but are these polished to a shiny finish, or did they end up more matte after polishing (sometimes my stones turn out kinda rough after tumbling). Thanks!

I know what you mean by rough after tumbling, but these went through 5 stages with buffer pellets, at 4-10 weeks each stage; I burnish with dreft detergent between each stage to minimize potential risk of contamination. Anyways, these came to a nice glossy finish with no rough patches. Also, I inspect potential specimens for fractures, crevices and pockets to maximize the polishing outcome. The pieces with many pockets, holes, and crevices I leave au natural.
