Do you enjoy reading nonfiction, historical books that focus on military combat?? Then, I would definitely recommend reading New York TImes Bestseller "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War" by Mark Bowden. Bowden provides a complete detailed narrative on the October 3, 1993 mission of U.S. soldiers in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Even though the movie version was an excellent representation of the conflict, movies cannot fully capture all of the details that an author can include. Personally, I always recommend reading a book first and watching the movie second. Reading the book first will give you an accurate background in order to understand sections of a movie that are not explored in detail. In the case of Black Hawk Down, Mark Bowden gives a minute-by-minute narrative of this riveting story that captures the heroism, courage and brutality of battle. A highly recommended read!!

However, in this case, the movie version of Black Hawk Down, did an excellent job capturing the intensity of the conflict with proper accuracy. The movie was a winner of 2 Academy Awards, including Best Sound and Best Film Editing. Acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator,Hannibal) and renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbor,Armageddon) capture the gripping true story about the Somalian conflict, while also including the bravery and harsh reality of war. In addition to having an exceptional cast, this DVD includes plenty of Special Features!!
