I see a lighter in the picture, does this mean they come from a smoking home?

Yes. And I have a Chihuahua. I do not intentionally let smoke or pets near the yarn-it stays in a sealed container until ready to use- but I cannot guarantee some contact has not been made. The lighter was for reference of size..........

What ashame because yarns attract smoke smell and you can never get it out...

I disagree. I do keep the yarn in a sealed container. And if there is a lingering smell of smoke- which is unlikely since I only smoke at my bedroom window- one good wash takes it right out..... in my experience. In addition when I store afghans I put in dryer sheets so they come out smelling of fresh laundry.
