Description

The listing, Knock around Acoustic Guitar by Kay has ended.

This is a Kay guitar from the Seventies. I have it strung with nylon strings, but it could probably be strung with steel strings. It has classical style tuners, so I put classical style strings on it. It's not perfect, it has dents, dings, and buckle rash, but for it's age, it's in pretty good shape. It's the kind of guitar you can have sitting around, just pick up and play any time. You can toss it in the truck for taking on camping trips, or taking to college. If it gets busted or stolen. you won't be out much. Now, mind you I've worked it over to make it play as good as any. Made the adjustments it needed, and moisturized the wood. Unfortunately, they cost about 28 dollars to ship the cheapest possible way. Nothing I can do about that, but if you can arrange pickup, great.

Gordo is west of Tuscaloosa. on 82, about forty miles out. It wouldn't be too bad of trip to come pick it up. If my truck was running, I'd meet you in Tuscaloosa, but right now that's not possible, and won't be until the weather warms up and I can stand to be outside long enough to finish fixing it. If you were coming to Tuscaloosa anyway, it's not that much out of the way.

bear in mind this is a starter guitar. complete restoration would be way more expensive than the guitar is worth, that's why I haven't done it myself. I found it online, nobody wanted it, I took it in and made it play again. I can't stand to see them languish in non playing order. I had to pass on another just like it, that in some ways was in better shape, but I can't adopt them all as my "foster children" as I refer to them. That one, somebody had put steel strings on and basically ruined it, though cosmetically it was much better looking, making it playable would have been unbelievably difficult

No... buy it here for credits, or if they want to come pay me cash, I'm fine with it either way. One or the other, makes no difference to me.

I will need the shipping cost, but other than that, no problem if you buy through here and want it shipped. We were discussing her getting it in person. In that case, she can buy it here for credits, then just pick it up. Though with the price of gas these days, it's probably more economical to mail it.

This is a starter guitar, though back when it was made, the quality was better even on cheapie starter guitars than it is now. It bears the Kay logo, but please don't confuse it with the old American made Kays. The name sold, as did Harmony, then they moved the construction operations overseas, hoping to trade on the name. Still, beats the hell out of the low end stuff coming out of china now.

American made Kay's even in poor condition, sell for a good amount of cash. Trying to buy one myself, even in poor, unrestored condition it is well into the hundreds already.

actually, the logo thing alone is worth like forty bucks all by itself, so I see on Ebay. Anyways, there it is, speak now or forever hold your bid.

I guess they'd call it a 38, actual measure of total length is just over 37 inches. Nut to bridge saddle is 24 and a quarter, or close to that. I think they call that the 24 inch scale. It's not a big guitar, for a classical, it's smaller and thinner than most. Has a nice tone, but not a whole lot of volume. I have much better classicals, but they're worth a heck of a lot more more than this is.

If you "buy" it through here, show up and I'll hand it to you. That saves the shipping cost. I don't have a problem with that. You wouldn't be out but what the gas costs, though these days, if it were a special trip, it would probably be cheaper for me to mail it.
