Melia azedarach, commonly known as Chinaberrry Tree, bead-tree, Texas Umbrella or Cape lilac, is a species of deciduous tree in the mahogany family, semi-evergreen trees. Known as: Piochas in Spanish.

The adult tree has a rounded crown, and commonly measures attains a height of 7-12 metres, however in exceptional circumstances M. azedarach can attain a height of 45 metres. The flowers are small and fragrant, with five pale purple or lilac petals, growing in clusters.

Chinaberry tree is originally from India and brought to Suriname by immigrants.

Persian lilac does flower and bears fruit and has toothed leaflets.
This deciduous tree produces purplish fragrant flowers, afterwards followed by yellow fruits (berries), that are very poisonous.
The hard seeds are easily dispersed by birds; these seeds are also very poisonous.♥
