oh i never once said it would be optimal i said they could hehe, but yeah systems made for linux should only run linux, due to other OS's need for more ram, or storage space to run all the programs they have to run, since windows and apple can do alot more then linux hense it takes more to run them, making it run ALOT slower. i actually advise keeping this for linux and grabbing a laptop made for windows, i was just throwin it out there that if they wanted to try it that its doable :-)

i would think so. you won't have to worry about virus' and malware since most germs are written specifically for windows. keep in mind that you won't be able to run most windows programs on it. and it's not great for gaming since the processor and memory won't have the power for it. but if they are just surfing and emailing and using IM/chat/FB they should be fine.

the answer to your question is no linux is more complex of a operating system than windows and there is alot more to installing and configuring software so the answer to your child friendliness is no linux is more of a operator/programmer based OS than windows and if you get it for your kid I hope that he's highly intelligent and adept in linux

True. This machine is good for web surfing, email, chat. Kids probably wouldn't be able to do much else with it. Which probably isn't a bad thing ;)

if someone DID want to they COULD install windows onto this all they would have to do is format the hard drive and remove any partitions on the hard drive before installing the windows program. but if you can handle linex its not a bad OS just cant do alot of the things other OS can is all

I have previously installed windows xp on this. It takes a while to find the drivers for the webcam etc. plus it runs a lot slower using windows opposed to Linux.

Which processor does this have? At one spot you have a "1.2 GHz Via C7-M Processor" listed and another spot you have a "Intel Atom" listed, both totally different processors. And is their a model number anywhere on this thing?
