Description

The listing, Red Zinger Hibiscus/Jamaician Sorrell, 30+ seeds, SASE has ended.

Also known as jamaican sorrell, used for making tea, wine, ect.. Some also consume leaves (like spinach), and use the underdeveloped seeds in pods on salads. Suppose to be very nutritious too!
.

I will send at least 40 seeds. You will love the blossoms this plant produces, as shown in the picture, they are similar to a hibiscus plant, but only last a short time. However they continue to bloom throughout the season. You'll be blessed with your own share of seeds after having grown your own hibiscus vine. One thing I would say is that its more like a plant than a vine, but some might prefer that.

A very easy grower, takes transplants well and is very hardy

Shipping is a sase or flat fee of 1.00 to cover postage.

Thanks Wendy, I'm in central Florida. I have (well had) an established plant. We harvested many calyxes for tea, but my problem is getting the seeds to mature for greater germination rate. The seeds that I've collect from my plant have a less than 50% germinate rate. I wanted to offer them in seed trades on my fb seed swap pg, I guess I'll just have to double seeds and let members know that I got low germination results.

when I first harvested mine they were not ready and that was in sept. They seem to take a while to mature. When the seed is dark, it is usually a good sign they are ready to harvest, wait too long then they mold. I hope u figure out why yours arent germinating. Im sure its something fixable.

I dont know what zone ur in, but here in Tucson these things grew like crazy. Was so easy to grow, but I think the initial germination time was a bit longer than 7 days. Once it was ready for transplant I put them outdoors, and they grew great. Then I decided to move some bc they were too big in the area I had planted them, and even at about 3ft I transplanted again, and they took it well. They love the sun, and we get lots of that here. However when your trying to get seedlings fast I would recommend placing your seed tray on a warmer like a heating pad, and keep it warm, esp if you dont have any special grow lights. I found alot of success with germination that way. Once the plant has flower pods it takes a while for the seeds to harden. I harvest mine at end of November into December. Just used regular potting soil, but seed starter would also be great. Hope that helps.

Love Roselle! How did you get your seeds to maturity? I've had such a hard time and it's causing poor germination rates.
