Description

The listing, ULTRA RARE VINTAGE 80's TRANSFORMERS ROBOT WATCH gumball prize / comic book mail away / flea market has ended.

This is for a VERY RARE Vintage Transforming robot watch from the early 80's. This was a PRE-TRANSFORMERS Quartz product.

The digital watch does not work. Otherwise, the robot and wristband show minor wear and seem to be in good condition.

It's very hard to find one of these robots with the digital watch still working. They are over 30 years old and most people have forgotten about them. Before the 'Transformers' brand came to America, kids in the early 80's had these as a popular transforming toy.

These used to be found as the top tier prize in the quarter prize machines that would give away the rubber mini robot erasers and pencil toppers. They also could be obtained by mailing out a coupon cut out of comic books. When I was a kid, I bought mine at my local swap meet. All the kids on the block had one, and eventually lost or broke it.

Decades later I was lucky enough to find another one at my local swap meet yet again. Too bad it doesn't work. The person I bought it from said he tested it and the numbers would not illuminate, and he said it was not corroded from the old battery that was removed. I take that guy's word for it, I've bought tested game systems from the same guy with no problem.

This will be shipped in a bubble mailer with tracking.

Good luck winning this awesome piece of geek history.

No, I don't have a screwdriver small enough to even try. I get vintage electronics all the time from the guy I got this from. It should be no corrosion. He said he tried the correct battery and it didn't work. He sold me a red one that does work, I'm keeping that one.

The way button cells are designed, it's extremely unlikely for one to leak or corrode unless it's been ran through seriously hostile conditions. Conditions that the watch would clearly show such as melting, extremely brittle or severe color bleeding. I wouldn't worry about it at all. There may be some oxidation, but as far as I'm concerned that's good. Best indicator of age; almost like a patina.

There. There's my uninvited 2 cents for the day. :P

Nice find BTW. :)

Thanks! Your support on this is much apreciated. I also have a Takara brand transforming jet watch in the box. I still have the original battery it came with, never been installed.

Wow. Haven't seen a blue one since back in the day. Lately only see grey red or black. There are some Takara chrome robot watches too.
