`Christmas Cookies' by `Oxmoor House, Inc' is a book by a publishing house rather than by any one identifiable author. In spite of this `book by committee', this is an excellent little book of cookie recipes if you do not already have such a book, and do not wish to spend much money on one.
The book only deals with the three (3) most common types of cookies, the shaped cookie (cookie cutters needed here), drop cookies (Toll House chocolate chip cookies the star here), and bar cookies (fudge of all flavors here). But, it also has a really delightful introductory chapter entitled `making memories', which starts out with `Baking Cookies with Kids' with recipes for hot cocoa, a hot chocolate mix, gingerbread man cookies, braided candy cane cookies, glazed sugar cookies, crispy peanut butter - chocolate treats, easy oatmeal - chocolate chip cookies, basic shortbread, tea cakes, peppermint candy brownies, sugar crinkles, and double chocolate chews. In addition to these introductory recipes, this section also has very nice little sections on sharing cookies with friends and wrapping cookies as gifts.
Between `making memories' and `shaped cookies' there is a four page `Cookie Primer' which may not guarantee success, but it is a great visual aid if you are using the book to assist children in making and baking cookies. Its primary virtue is its simplicity.
