Description

The listing, Heirloom Tomato ✽ VIRGINIA SWEET ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Organic has ended.

One of my favorite tomatoes, these plants produce high yields of 1 lb+ jewel toned yellow beefsteak tomatoes with red stripes turning to a ruby blush. The tomato has a sweet rich tomato flavor. One of the best tasting and best producing gold-red bicolors tomatoes. Excellent for salads and sandwiches. A variety from Virginia, USA. Some cracks in late summer, but they didn't stop me from gobbling them up. Yum!

Days: 80
Size: Indeterminate (produces fruit all season)
Color: Bi-Color
Type: OP Heirloom
Uses: slicing, canning, salads, fresh eating

This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my garden. They will be sent First Class mail. I only take Paypal for international bidders. I am happy to say that my seeds tested 99-100% germination within 2 weeks at a temp of 70°F in the spring of 2012. Excellent for beginners!

Propagation Method: From seed, sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 2-3 seeds per pot and thin to one plant per container. After four weeks, transplant seedlings to larger pots, and about 10 days before the last spring frost, begin hardening the plants to the outdoors. Transplant your plants to a sunny, highly composted location when soil temperatures are at least 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Stake or cage the plants for support and to prevent sprawling on the ground.

I wish it was all mine. 90% of these were planted and grown by me, but not all at my house. I have 2 veggies gardens at my home, plus I grow the currant tomatoes here in separate spots. We also grow on 3 plots at a community garden a few miles away from me (though it is actually in another state LOL). Most of the plots are to provide food for the local food pantries, but I still save seeds. Next year we will grow some different varieties of tomatoes, along with some of the same. There are so many heirloom tomatoes, that it would take me years to try them all. We continue trying the different varieties because some do better & some do worse in different years. You never know what Mother Nature is going to hit us with. This year it was devastation on the squash. It was a stellar year for tomatoes. They would actually fall off the plant before we could even get to harvest all. :)
